| BEFORE YOU START:
| Make sure you are using all 32-bit device drivers.
Please note that 32-bit drivers are also known as VxD drivers or "virtual-mode"
device drivers. 32-bit Windows 95/Windows NT drivers are available from
most respectable hardware manufacturers. If you are not using 32-bit device
drivers for ALL of your hardware devices, stop right now and go out and
get them. You can use the device drivers link found on Spyder's home page.
This link will get you to virtually all of the hardware manufacturers' driver
pages. Having all 32-bit drivers will allow you to optimally configure Windows
95 and eliminate the need for boot disks and AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS
files. Consult the Microsoft web page if you need more information about
32-bit drivers and their proper installation and configuration.

Start out by creating a shortcut to your NASCAR.EXE file icon.
- Locate your NASCAR Racing folder.
- Locate the NASCAR.EXE file icon.
- RIGHT click the the NASCAR.EXE file icon.
- Choose CREATE SHORTCUT from the pull-down menu.
Once you have created the shortcut, you will need to adjust the
properties for the shortcut. This time, RIGHT click on the file
icon for the shortcut you just created. Choose PROPERTIES
from the pull-down menu. Your should see a dialog box that
looks something like the following picture:
Now, click the PROGRAM tab at the top of the dialog box.
Make sure you set all of your options as per the following
picture. Your directory structure will probably be a bit
different than mine. I have the game installed on
D:\GAMES\NASCAR. You are likely to have it installed
somewhere else (like C:\NASCAR). If so, adjust what you
fill in accordingly.
Also, notice the -h -f switches in the command line.
The -f switch tells NASCAR Racing to use FM sound. The -h
switch puts the game in high resolution mode (SVGA). You must
have the CD-ROM version of the game for SVGA graphics to
work. If you do not have the CD-ROM version, then simply
leave out the -h switch and just use the -f switch.
Click the ADVANCED button when you are finished with this.
Make sure your ADVANCED options match those shown in the
following picture. In other words, uncheck everything.
When you are finished, click the OK button.
After setting the PROGRAM and ADVANCED options, click
the MEMORY tab and make sure it looks as follows:
Make sure your SCREEN options look like this:
Make sure your MISC options look like this:
That's all there is to it. This set up works great
for me. My system is a Pentium 90 with 16 megs of RAM
and a 2 Meg ATI Mach 64 video card. All of my device
drivers are VxDs and I thus do not have a CONFIG.SYS
or AUTOEXEC.BAT file to worry about. I usually play
with all textures on except for asphalt, grass, and
grandstand textures. I run the frame rates as high as
they can go (30 fps).
I also use a similar Windows 95 setup for Doom and Quake.
